Making a Post in WordPress
Making a post is a lot like making a page, only with a post you have a lot more options. We’re going to make a Demo Post and start out by naming it New Photos! And as you can see here as soon as we name the post it’s going to give it a “slug” or a location on the website. We put the content of the page in the large text area.
As you can see the options are a lot like pages where we can access a list of posts by clicking edit on the left hand side, or we can add a new post. On the right side we can set the date for the post to be published along with making it Public, Private, or password protected.
If we go to the published post by clicking on the “View Post” button, we can see that our content is place where it belongs with the them of our website.
If we click on edit on the left hand side of the dashboard, we’ll get a list of posts on the website. If you hover your mouse over the titles you’ll get options to edit, quick edit, delete, or view the post.
We’ll delete our demo post.
You can also update posts by clicking on the titles. The saved or published post will get pulled up and you can go right to editing it. On the right hand side the button now says Update Post rather than Publish, click this will save your changes and make them live on the website.
Another feature of WordPress is the ability to upload pictures into your pages or posts.
If the post is published as public then you can see it just by going to the website.
For example, on Steve Guymon Photography, the articles tab show’s all of his posts. A menu on the right categorizes and organizes the posts for us. Posts by default can have comments added to them as people register and post comments.
Another feature of Posts is the ability to categorize. You can add new categories, such as Steve Guymon’s Photos here.
